Velma And Her Guns

Hi,

I took a pause to study the work of some other artists and do some sketches. This time I fell into exploring the work of Frank Miller (b 1957).

Frank's a controversial man. Known for his political stances and his radical approach to the art of the graphic novel. Many people will tell you he re-invented the graphic novel back in 1986 with the seminal 'Dark Knight Returns.'

Of course, he's also worked on Elektra, Daredevil and the X Men comics.

I like his style of art. It's brash, bold and his use of shadow and contrast is remarkable.

For this submission I went with a single colour 'look' with an effort to capture Frank's rough and ready style, his emphasis on shape, hands, lips and guns. Yeah, he's into guns. 

So, here's Velma, leaping into one-legged action!
