Velma Kirby style

Description

Hi,

Whoa. My adventure through the style of famed artists has been instructive.

This time, I tried exploring the style of Jack Kirby (1917-1994). Perhaps Jack needs little introduction. But it's safe to say that he's probably one of the most influential comic artists of all time. Jack was responsible for designing and forming the look-and-feel of almost all the popular super-characters out there today.  :)

Jack was often more concerned with depicting dynamic action than a strict adherence to anatomy. But he clearly knew enough about anatomy when it counted. As I was exploring his style and art, it became clear to me he had a great sense of making use of form, efficient use of a limited color palette and strong outlines.

Anyway, here's an amputee Velma in a sort of pin-up style a la Jack Kirby - with the stronger outline and sharp cheekbones.

I hope she amuses those who stop by here.

I'd be interested to hear what people think about this exploration of styles, so please feel free to leave constructive comments or ideas for artists to explore.  :)

Nice work on the figure and on imitating Jack's style, but I feel you could have done more with the background.  Yes, kind of a 'duh' statement, Velma's pose draws a lot of attention to the ground (or whatever surface she's sitting on), and the blank yellow void seems to undermine her sense of stability.
